"prolonged absence" from blogging I finally got motivated to pull out a project tutorial from my online stamp club and share it. Hopefully you will enjoy this springy and colorful birthday card....the butterfly technique was one shared by a fellow SU demo friend of mine, Lyssa
Zwolanek of www.songofmyheartstampers.com and I loved the simple "pop up" ;mechanism she created using glue dots and diecuts so I had to give it a whirl. Hopefully my IL stamp club friends also enjoyed it as this was a project they did for club yesterday.

The first part is the front of the card...might as well start here! Use white matte or glossy cardstock and stamp the tulips in the corner....position the Happy bday diecut on the left side for placement but don't attach it yet Once you have the flowers stamped (give them a minute or too to dry completely if using glossy since the glossy cardstock takes a little bit longer) you can adhere the diecut words then run the white panel through the quilt embossing folder, When the white stamped panel is finished adhere it to the black panel and then to the Lemon Lime Twist panel and voila! the front of the card is done.

For the inside pop up portion.....stamp and diecut 3 of the large butterflies from Watercolor Wings. I used lemon lime twist, turquoise and soft sky for two of the butterflies and added a darker accent to the third (center butterfly) for some contrast.

Diecut the three stamped butterflies then fold each butterfly in half and use glue dots to attach them wingtip to wingtip so they will stretch out accordion style when the card opens and scrunch back together when the card closes.

See photos below for the visual. the plain white butterflies show how to attach the three with glue dots, the other shows the finished butterflies in place. As you can see from the picture looking down on the opened card the right and left butterfly are attached about halfway between the middle of the card and the scored middle crease of the card which allows them to "float" open and closed easily.
"Index Card" art from Love You Lots HS

I know, I know...this is probably one of the funkiest looking hand stamped cards you have ever seen, am I right? BUT this is what is called an "index card" and it's one of the cool things that various members of the www.splitcoaststampers.com demonstrator community do for each other and for all of you stampers out there who enjoy getting ideas from the SCS gallery.

When the new catty comes out, we are all flooded with new stamp sets and can't wait to enjoy them all....BUT there is no way you can get them all (well, not realistically) so it's nice to see all of the images in the stamp set all at once. Due to copyright restrictions, it's not permitted to copy the actual stamp images to post on the splitcoast website. So many different stampers volunteer to use stamp sets they have to put together an "index card" by stamping all images from one set onto a "card" (more or less a card, anyway) so you can go back and see what images are in a particular set just by clicking on the splitcoast gallery photo. This is handy if you don't want to dredge thru every catalogue you own trying to figure out what stamp set a particular image goes with OR what image might be missing from a particular stamp set so you know what to search for, right?

So...this is my first ever attempt to make an index card...I am ashamed to say that in the 13 years I have been an SU demo this is the first one I've ever done but it was kind of fun and I am happy to be able to help out a bit! I volunteered to do this one and several others but since this is a "first time moment" for me, I thought I would share it with you guys here on my blog as well as with the folks on splitcoast. Do leave me a little "shout out" comment if you ever see it on splitcoast, ok? You can go to the general gallery and search by stamp set name OR by name of the "artist". I am known an "inkerzaway" on splitcoast if you would like to search for my paltry gallery of shared cards.

Obviously, this set is called Love You Lots and it's a hostess only set so can only be ordered with hostess dollars earned by having a Stampin' Up! party (be it a traditional in home party, a wild and crazy personal order OR asking me to set up a "hostess code" for you to send to your friends so you can have an online book party AND earn free stamps with your order! So if that's something you'd like to do, please let me know and I will be happy to set that up for you. ''

I hope you have enjoyed this little "inside peek" to how the splitcoast community works together to make life easier for stampers and I am eager to begin stamping all manner of cute little cards with these adorable critters! If you aren't already a member of the SCS community, I invite you to waste no time in checking it out at http://www.splitcoaststampers.com and see the amazing photo gallery as well as multiple fun "chat areas" to discuss anything from soup to nuts with a whole lotta stamping in between. And oh by the way, it's FREE!
Ok, I admit that when I first saw this stamp set I was completely "underwhelmed" and wasn't sure what I would do with it. This was at OnStageLive in Salt Lake City last April when the set was featured in a live presentation by Shelli G(Stampin' Up! co-founder) and her daughter, Sarah D. who was recently named as CEO of Stampin' Up! Talk about pulling out the big guns to feature a stamp set, right?
Even after seeing beautiful samples created by Sarah and Shelli in their "dueling stampers" skit I wasn't sure about it BUT this set was an "All Attendee Giveaway" so I was able to bring it home with me and I was quickly won over when I saw a sweet and simple card shared by Dawn of DOStamping (Click on the highlight over Dawn's name to see her sample)....after that, I got the set inky and created about a stack of cards just like the photo above in less than 30 minutes via assembly line style stamping. AND they are done in beautiful Bermuda Bay with a thin accent layer of black to make it "pop". What's not to like about that, right?
This "style" is a super easy version of the One Sheet Wonder Technique (OSW) which basically means you stamp images all over a full sheet of neutral cardstock then cut that sheet into card sized pieces creating "card fronts" to layer on coordinating cardstock. So basically, stamp one sheet and make 4 or more cards from each stamped piece. It's a quick and cute way to stamp a stack of cards pretty fast! I first learned this technique from Karen Gregorian way back in the late 1990's when I was a new demonstrator and it was good to be reminded that stamping doesn't have to complicated to be fun.
So, thank you Dawn O. for the inspiration....I will be using this stamp set as one of the cards at an upcoming Quick and Cute Class so if you are in The Villages, FL area and want to come and see how easy this is to make, contact me asap so I can sign you up for class or schedule a time for you and your friends to get together and make this fun little card.

Here's the scoop on what you need to create this card! If you see something you love, you can just click on the link and you'll be taken to my webstore where you can make a purchase. How handy is that? But, before you start trying to order Sassy Salutations, I will confess that I grabbed that set and used it before the catalogue changed over on June 1st so it's no longer available to order however there are many sets of wonderful sentiments available in the new catty...some are tried and true, some are brand new but definitely lots of options!

This was a little "sneak peek" treat for my long distance stamp club members for our Club Project in May.....I was able to preorder this set because I'm a Stampin' Up! demonstrator so I made a couple of cards and fell in love with it right away so I knew that was the set to use for the sneak peek for my awesome club ladies!

Not only does it use a NEW stamp set (Flirty Flamingo) but it also used the NEW 2016-17 In Colors and some of the beautiful new ruched ribbon in Flirty Flamingo color....very cute card and easy, too! My favorite combination!

This was a pretty easy card so you probably don't need much info to figure it out but I used the Confetti embossing folder ...stamped the thank you banner in Emerald Envy (one of the new colors) BEFORE embossing the white cardstock (otherwise you don't get a good image for the banner) so I just eyeballed it to make sure it would be near the bottom of the card and stamped it. Then I ran it thru the Confetti embossing folder and finally stamped the pink birdie on the smooth inisde portion of the oval left by the confetti folder. Stamped it in Flirty Flamingo, and adhered the white cardstock to a slightly larger black cardstock (nothing makes pink "pop" like layering it on black!) then attached the whole thing to folded Flirty Flamingo (pink) cardstock. Of course I had to tie some of the beautiful new ruched ribbon in Flirty Flamingo around the spine of the card and then voila, the card was complete!

Here's the inside of the card....I stamped the leaf in the top left corner with Emerald Envy then used the In Color markers (Emerald Envy and Peek-a-Boo Peach) to color the pineapple. Since this was stamped as a thank you card, I left plenty of space on the inside to write a little greeting.

Hope you have enjoyed this little card sample....it's no longer a "sneak peek" since the catalogue has gone live so maybe you have this set already? If so I know you'll enjoy the stamp set...it's so cute!

Here is the supply list of the items I used for this card, I realized after saving the file that I neglected to include the Confettie Embossing Folder which is still available from Stampin' Up! and the item number for that folder is 140592 if you are interested in ordering it.

Well, here's that rose!

Ok, so I don't quote Shakespeare very often but in this case, I just couldn't resist....I hope that Romeo and Juliet will forgive me. I've had the Rose Wonder stamp "bundle" (stamp and framelits set "bundled" together for cost savings) since the Occasions Mini came out back in January and have enjoyed making many different projects with it. This one is very simple but one of my favorites so far.

To make the above card, I let the silver foil metallic cardstock take the staring role....I just cut the large rose/leaf outline framelit out of silver metallic foil and adhered it directly to a piece of Night of Navy cardstock....don't you love that pop of silver on dark blue? Since the foil paper is metallic on one side and white on the other, it can be used as a folded card BUT why would you do that when you can save on the specialty papers by cutting the layer to flower out of it and then using the intact edges of the piece as a layer underneath? I cut the foil piece to 4." x 5.25" and arranged the framelit die keeping the edges intact to use for a layer, then added a folded white card behind it.

So the "sandwich" goes like this....Night of Navy 3.75"x5", Silver layer 4.0"x5.25" and a piece of white cardstock measuring 5.5x8.5", scored at 4.25" for the folded card so it gives you a nice white layer to stamp another birthday verse or write a personal note (or both?) on the inside.

This is a card that is very easy to do in batches....cut all the cardstock layers at the same time, crank out the framelit pieces stamping first for the bday sentiment) and stick them all together. Hopefully you won't need it, but there is a lovely sympathy greeting that fits the framelit along with a nice inside verse in the same set if you find yourself in need of one. Here is a small photo of a very similar sympathy card if you'd like to see another idea, I stamped the little frame portion on this card.

Whisper White cardstock was used to cut out the flower/leaf image for this sample and a tiny little butterfly punched from
yellow cardstock with bit 'o bling in the form of a clear rhinestone added to the cut out sympathy sentiment,
I thought the white cardstock flower seemed more subdued for a sympathy card. Those items are also listed in the "supply showcase" at the bottom of
this post. I neglected to add this to the showcase but I also ran the black cardstock layer thru the Zigzag embossing folder (item # 1337380). This item will not carry over so last day to get the Zigzag folder is May 31st (or while supplies last).

For the sentiment on the card shown in the first photo, I chose Happy Birthday from the same bundled set and stamped it on white cardstock with Night of Navy ink then cut it out with a framelit from the Rose Wonder same framelit set. I think it shows up very nicely layered on the dark blue background, am I right?

While this set IS carrying over too the new 2016-17 Annual catalogue, the "bundle pricing" is if you want to save 15% on the cost of the stamp and framelit set, be sure to pick it up before the catalogue changes over. Last day to order at the bundle price is May 31st. If you don't already have a preferred demonstrator, I would be delighted if you choose me as your Stampin' Up! demonstrator. Ok, that's just a cute term I often heard used "down under" when we had a chance to visit Australia more than 10 years ago.....so it didn't have to be "cake with icing" as we know it in the U.S, it could be any kind of pastry treat and I loved the expression!

I used this soon to retire stamp set from the Occasions Mini to make a project for my online stamp club ladies a few months back....love the little doily and the diecut hearts, this is so cute!!! It didn't need much to make it stand out, am I right? I wish I could remember what talented and creative individual I "CASED" this card from....if you recognize it as your work, please let me know so I can give you the credit you deserve.

I made this one of my stamp club projects a few months ago and I hope my stampers enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it, so cute!!! This set originally had a coordinating set of framelits but sadly those have sold out and will not be returning, however the stamp set is still available thru May 31st. so if it's something you love don't hesitate to get it now.

They are only paper and they might brighten someone's day so I really need to work on that!
If you don't have a current Stampin' Up! consultant and are interested in ordering, I would be delighted to have you order from me and send you one of the NEW catalogues which go live on June 1st!
In the meantime, you can order anything you need to make this card (with the exception of the framelits which have sold out already) but clicking on any of the links below. I hope you enjoyed the card!

Hey, let's see if I can remember how to do this blogging thing! I know, I know...it's been months but I haven't given up my quest to learn how to use technology to share my love for stamping.

So, here is one of the cards I did for a recent club project for some of my very favorite stampers! This was not a complicated card, but I did think it was very cute and while not terribly original, I did not "CASE" (Copy and slightly edit) this card which was fun for me and probably a surprise for my club friends!

I have included the supply list for this card at the bottom of the post along with the paper measurements, unfortunately right now I can't get the MyStampin'Blog link working to allow you to click on the item and go directly to my Stampin' Up! Online store, but you can write down the item number then and go to my Stampin' UP! website (http://www.janhoytstampinup.net) to place an order if you are so inclined.

For this card, I simply stamped the Birthday Blooms large floral image onto the white cardstock layer with Archival Black ink and colored it in with Blackberry Bliss ink for the bloom and Old Olive for the leaves. I used an AquaPainter so I could easily go back and add darker highlights and accents to the image. The little "heart border" and the little "scribble dots" were both stamped in Blackberry Bliss. I just thought the heart border gave it a little extra touch that I liked and the random dot images filled in the empty space. The "for you" sentiment was stamped in Silver Encore metallic ink to coordinate with the Silver Metallic foil layer in between the white cardstock and the Blackberry Bliss Base. It seems a little shiny in the picture because of the camera flash but it blends in nicely with the silver sentiment. I didn't heat emboss the sentiment with silver embossing powder but that would have been a very pretty touch.

After finishing the stamping on the 3.75" x5" Whisper White layer, I adhered the stamped layer to the Silver metallic foil cardstock (4"x5.5" in size and then attached it to a folded cardstock base of Blackberry Bliss. (5.5"x 8.5"", scored at 4.25" ) I LOVE the Blackberry Bliss...we used it to make wedding invitations for my youngest son's wedding so I had stocked up on cardstock in that colors and we plenty of leftovers.

Here is what the inside portion of the card looked like, it included another stamped sentiment from the same set (it says Happiest Birthday Wishes) and I stamped the single floral bloom at the bottom left corner and watercolored with the same colors as the floral image on the front. of the card.
LOVE this new tandem bicycle set from Stampin' Up! It was just introduced as a free set to be earned during Sale-a-Bration (the annual SU blow out sale where you can choose a free item from the list of exclusive products for every $50 increment of product purchases.

So this set just came on the scene and as of Feb 16th, you can earn it with a minimum purchase of $50. As a demonstrator, I was able to preorder it so I could start playing around with it so I have really been enjoying this opportunity!!

The card above was one of the projects I did for my March stamp club class....an amazing group of women who live in Illinois and participate in a long distance "hostess club" and I hope they enjoyed this project. It wasn't hard to do since the stamp set is photopolymer which means it's clear and very easy to see where you are stamping. The Happy Day sentiment was from another "free with purchase" set called Perfect Pairings and it has a great combo of "innies and outies" (stamps that are great for using on the outside of a card with a corresponding stamp for the inside.

The supply list for this card is listed below and if you see anything you like, all you have to do is click on it and you will be taken straight to my online store "shoppig cart". don't forget, you can earn an SAB "freebie" with $50 purchase!

I just love this perky little penguin....he is as cute as can be AND has a snappy top hat to wear when he wants to dress up for special occasions! I'm a big fan of penguins, can you tell? ;-) I love that he has matching framelits so he's easy to cut out and mount on another layer if desired, but he still looks just great all by himself stamped right on the cardstock! In this case, he was stamped on white and cut out or he'd have a well tanned belly which would be weird for a penguin, even in Florida.

Anyway, this little guy comes with several wintery friends ( "Snow Place" has several snowmen and the penguin and a variety of "accessories" for both species) so he's never lonely. This set was originally introduced in the 2015 Holiday Mini which retired at the end of 2015 BUT the stamp set was carried over into the current Occasions mini and is still available to order with or without the matching framelits which also has lots of cute "accessories" for the snowmen (yes, more than one) and Mr. Penguin here. Of course, if you get it, you will definitely want to take advantage of the 15% discounted price when you combine the stamp set with the framelits bundle....unless you really like "fussy cutting" by hand!

This card was easy and went fast....first I stamped both of the items which needed to be cut out with framelits (the adorable top hat and Mr. Penguin), I punched the little flower out of a scrap of decorative paper so small that I can't even identify it from the photo. After stamping the penguin on Whisper White cardstock, I used a Tangerine marker (from the Bold Brights color family of
markers....it is not available as a singleton) to color in his feet and
beak. It's just a bit easier for me to color things in while they are on a larger piece of cardstock...they don't wiggle around as much, even the well behaved penguins. ;-) Then I diecut the top hat and the penguin. The card was lacking a splash of color so I used a small strip of Tangerine Washi tape (just tear it off, it looks good that way!) and adhered it across the bottom of the card before I attached Mr Penguin and his top hat to the card (use whatever adhesive you prefer for the penguin....I usually go with the Snail adhesive since it's handy and not messy) then I attached the top hat with a stampin' dimensional to give it a little depth..the flower accent piece with a tiny rhinestone went onto the hat.

The "time to celebrate" sentiment stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black worked well for this card since my class was post Christmas and my students at the FishHawk Recreation Center in The Villages, FL like to have plenty of birthday cards on hand, but there are multiple other cute winter themed sentiments which would work as well. When making the card, I decided he looked a lonely little penguin all by himself on the card so I added a few snowflakes (included in this set) stamped in Versamark ink to fill in some space, then used a black Project Life fine tip journaling marker to add random dots and dashes around the outline of the card. In my opinion, that little hand scribbled frame made the card look finished.

This card started as a single layer at a CAS class ("clean and simple") in December and he was adorable! Later, I wanted to use the card samples to make a couple of cards to send to a couple of my friends who had winter birthdays so I added a layer of coordinating Tangerine Tango cardstock color under
the Crumb Cake color base and loved how it coordinated with the Washi Tape and the marker used to color in his snout and
feet. It was adorable both ways but sadly, I
neglected to take a photo of the CAS version so please just use your imagination, ok?

Here are the supplies (below) needed for this card if you know anyone interested in making it, ;-) If you don't already have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, I would love to fill that void. You can order directly from my online webstore here. Thanks for popping in to see my card...I would love to hear what you think of it if you'd care to leave a comment!
June 2015 My Paper Pumpkin project

Well, it took me a while to make this card but I finally got a stack of them made and mailed out to all of the My Paper Pumpkin subscribers who got this kit IN JUNE...yes... that's right, this photo was taken last summer and uploaded to my blog but I never got the post done. In case you aren't familiar with a Paper Pumpkin, it's a monthly surprise kit which comes in the mail...you get everything needed to make the project included in the kit except the adhesive. What a cool deal, right? They bill it as a monthly creative escape and it keeps getting better and better every time.

A little embarrasing that I just now found it (hey, it's only January of 2016 so that's only six months, right?) but it was a card I loved and I think my very favorite Paper Pumpkin stamp set that I have seen so far so I figured that I should go ahead and share it with you. When I get the monthly kits, I like to make an alternate card (other than the directions which come with the kit) and send those out to the folks who subscribe to The Paper Pumpkin.

I love to read and I love to find a way to share things which will remind my friends of me so when I started thinking of what I could do for my "alternate project" I decided it would be nice to send them a card with a double whammy....both a card and a bookmark which they could use in a favorite book and be reminded of me. So, the bookmark is detachable....this allows the receiver to remove the bookmark easily without tearing it and I used the now retired Stampin' Up! "slit punch" to make the "holder tabs" for the bookmark.

For this project, I used the stamp set which came with the July Paper Pumpkin (I believe it was called Thanks a Latte) and added some now retired Tempting Turquoise polka dot decorative paper. I stamped directly on it and then cut it out (sort of "paper piecing") then stamped the "steam" image above the cup and the sentiment below the cup, attached the cup in the middle with adhesive. Pretty simple! I used a 2" wide strip of Crumb Cake cardstock and the Scallop tag punch for the cute top then just cut a snipped wedge out of the bottom. I used some retired striped ribbon to thread thru the top of the tag and a little piece of twine to tie it off I loved the way this worked out and it took me a while to get a dozen of these cards made but I really liked them and I hope the recipients enjoyed them too.

The orange background is Tangerine Tango which I ran thru the Hearts embossing folder , before attaching to the cardstock I used a small heart punch to punch a tiny heart out of the folder, then attached the punchie to the front of the cup. The whole card is layered on a folded white card for a nice clean look, '

If you decide to make some of these cards, I hope you'll enjoy them but I strongly recommend these cards be hand delivered if possible since that big knot definitely demands extra postage at the USPS. Should you happen to be one of the recipients of this card or just want to share your opinion, I invite you to leave a comment below.

And just fyi, the twine I used is now retired so I substituted the metallic gold twine in the supply list to give you another option which is still available. The ink used for the "steam curls" is Early Espresso classic ink which I forgot to include in the photo showcase below.
Since Valentine's Day will be here before you know i (yes, I know it's still January but these things have a way of sneaking up on you) I decided that I should go ahead and post it for those who like to work ahead a little bit. Yes, yes...unlike me, of course who waits until the 11th hour! ;-)

August Stamp Club....ready to go! I came up with several ideas for my online stamp club this month....this card was one of the "alternate samples" I came up with as I was deciding on our final project. I ended up including this in the "other ideas" section so it wasn't the card I sent out however I loved the idea and wanted to share it here on my blog.

This was actually a pretty easy card to make....I used the "cross hatch" style image from this set to create a multi-colored background. First thing to do is ink up the entire image with Daffodil, then get the Old Olive pad and tap it over about 1/3rd of the image on one side then do the same thing with Pumpkin Pie inkpad on the opposite side. This leaves the yellow in the middle and gives you orange on one side and olive on the other side. Very easy since you don't have to be exact with the process. It will look something like this after you're done.

Once you have the tricolored background, stamp it on Whisper White cardstock then use Tuxedo Black ink to stamp the flower vertically on the cardstock (stamp the image lengthwise with the bloom portion over the orange/yellow segments and the stem/leaves over the yellow/green) . Use your AquaPainter or blender pens to add color in the flower to match the colors underneath (orange/yellow for the bloom and green for the leaves and stem), then layer it on a slightly larger piece of Basic Black c/s. Putting the black background behind it really makes the color "pop"!

The Pumpkin Pie card base was run through Delicate Dots embossing folder to add texture before adhering the floral panel. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to attach it to give it a little more depth and to make sure it would stick well on the textured cardstock. For a final touch, I added a little bit of black twine wrapped around the bottom as an embellishment as shown (or you could leave it "nekked"....looks great either way!)

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this card sample. My club ladies get two projects each month including a photo tutorial AND they get to take a turn as hostess. If you are interested in more info about my online stamp club, please contact me at inkerzaway@aol.com, sign ups end on Sept. 15th. Here are the items you need to make this card and all you have to do is click on the link shown and it will take you straight to my Stampin' Up! store so you can buy it and have it shipped directly to you. How great is that?
